Microsoft released its monthly security update on Tuesday, fixing 206 security vulnerabilities across its software products. This is a record number of fixes in a single update. Of these vulnerabilities, 39 are rated Critical and 167 are rated Important.
Three of the flaws were already publicly known at the time Microsoft released the fixes, which means attackers may already be aware of them. This affects you if you use Windows computers, Microsoft Office, or other Microsoft software at home or work.

The vulnerabilities include problems that could let hackers take control of your computer remotely, gain higher levels of access to your system, steal your information, or trick you into thinking a malicious program is legitimate. Any Windows PC that has not been updated in the past week is potentially vulnerable.
- On Windows, click the Start button, go to Settings, select Windows Update, and click Check for Updates. Install any available updates and restart your computer when prompted.
- Make sure Microsoft Office and other Microsoft programs are also updated by opening them and checking for updates in their settings.
- If you use Windows at work, check with your IT department to confirm updates have been applied to your work computer.
- After updating, restart your computer even if you are not prompted, as some security fixes only take effect after a restart. Make Windows updates a monthly habit. Microsoft releases security fixes on the second Tuesday of every month, known as Patch Tuesday. Set a reminder on your calendar for the second Wednesday of each month to check for and install updates. Enable automatic updates in Windows settings so your computer can install critical fixes even if you forget. Regular updates are the single most effective way to protect your computer from known security problems.
